After much discussion and deliberation the board has come to an official decision regarding competitive for each division.
- U11 (Atom): Potential competitive team.
- U13 (Peewee): no competitive team.
- U15 (Bantam): no competitive team.
- U18 (Midget): no competitive team.
For a detailed explanation see below.
Below is the reasoning for each division. Please note that the board is always willing to reconsider this decision if registrations number improve the situation.
- U11: This is dependent on the final number of registered players and by confirming with parents if they are aware how the HNB Return to Hockey Guidelines might impact their season.
- U13: So far this is due to low registration numbers. Also a factor but unrelated to the current pandemic, there has also been less interest in having a Peewee Comp team. The AAA program simply sucks too much talent out of minor hockey, as this area simply doesn't have the population to sustain two competitive U13 teams.
- U15: At this point this is due to low registration numbers.
- U18: This division is the most likely to change, depending if High School hockey programs proceed or not. Without going into too much detail, High School programs will have much more severe restrictions than minor hockey, so we may see an influx of kids as a result.
Understanding the HNB Return to Hockey Guidelines
- The first two phases the HNB guidelines do not allow for any games at all.
- In phase 3, teams can play inter-association games. If an association only has one team, it can bubble and play against another team from a neighbouring association.
- In phase 4, some travel restrictions will apply but in all likelihood leagues games will be permitted.
- In phase 5 tournaments will be permitted.
As for the timing of these phases, a best case scenario could see us in phase 4 in mid to end of November, provided that there is no setback at a provincial or regional level.
